1. John Sloboda
I'd like to take a moment to highlight the great research by John Sloboda into audience relationships to music and opera. He and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama have a programme for performers called Understanding Audiences that aims to "deepen performers’ understanding of, and connection to, their audiences in a way which enhances effective artistic development and practice".
I can safely say that as a researcher into opera and its audiences, their research has been fascinating and useful.
