Omar is sought-after as a composerdirectorchoral director and workshop leader, as well as the founder-director of OPERA SCHMOPERA, which makes new operas for young people.

Omar considers himself a peace-maker who applies his skills and passion to his mission of creating social harmony and empowering individuals. A passionate champion for fostering youth and diversity, he was the first artist to be interviewed for Opera Up Close's Artists who inspire us series.

Omar is a board member of Tête à tête Opera Company and a steering committee member of the European Network of Opera, Music and Dance Education (RESEO). In 2015 Omar was awarded AHRC Competition funding to read a PhD in the Composition of Opera for Young People at the University of York.

Workshop Leading

As an educator, Omar has created and facilitated workshops to engage and inspire hard-to-reach communities and children of all ages. He has also led training workshops for teachers and arts professionals with Royal Opera and Olso Opera House as part of the Write An Opera scheme. (view full resume)


Omar has a wealth of experience in the creation and production of opera having worked for the UK's major opera companies including Royal Opera, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Birmingham Opera, Garsington Opera and Grange Park Opera.  (view full resume)

Choral Direction

In 2013 Omar founded EastEnd Notes, a cross-cultural male-voice choir, with support from the Spitalfields Festival.
